Fleetwood Owen Rock and Pop Legends Auction

Commission bids can now be placed online and will culminate with a 'live' event at the Hard Rock Cafe London, on the 18th September. Tausende pilgerten zum Grab von Jim Morrison

Paris (dpa) – Mit Blumen, Kerzen, Gedichten, wohl auch so manchem Joint sind Tausende am Dienstag in Paris zum Grab des vor 30 Jahren gestorbenen Rock-Sängers Jim Morrison von der legendären Kultband The Doors gepilgert. Ausnahmsweise war der Weg zu dem nur schwer auffindbaren Grab von den Friedhofsbehörden markiert worden. Unter den Fans, die sich um das Grab drängten, waren auffallend viele junge Leute vor allem aus den USA und Deutschland. Auf dem Prominenten-Friedhof Père Lachaise liegen auch Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf und Frederic Chopin. Polizei und Friedhofsaufsicht, die das ganze Jahr über die zahlreichen Besucher am Morrison-Grab im Auge behalten, blieben auf Distanz und durchsuchten nur die praller gefüllten Rücksäcke der Fans. In der Vergangenheit war es wiederholt auch zu Krawallen gekommen. An diesem 30. Todestag zogen die Fans in einer langen Schlange am Grab vorbei. Jim Morrison war am 3. Juli 1971 unter nie geklärten Umständen in Paris ums Leben gekommen.

John Lee Hooker, 22. August 1917 – 21. Juni 2001

Blues-Legende John Lee Hooker, den man ohne Übertreibung als den Erfinder des Rock 'n' Roll bezeichnen kann, starb im Alter von knapp 84 Jahren in seinem Haus in Los Altos, Kalifornien, an einer natürlichen Todesursache. Sein Tod kam laut Angaben seiner Angehörigen überraschend, noch für das auf seinen Todestag folgende Wochenende hatte Hooker einige Konzerte geplant.

John Lee Hooker, dessen Karriere 1948 im Alter von 31 Jahren vergleichsweise spät begann, hat in den 53 Jahren seines Schaffens über 900 Songs aufgenommen und veröffentlicht. Eine seiner letzten Aufnahmen war eine Neuaufnahme des Roadhouse Blues zusammen mit den Doors, dessen im Jahre 1969 aufgenommenes Original – wie unzählige weitere Songs berühmter Interpreten – ohnehin von John Lee Hookers Stil beeinflußt war. Ray Manzarek in Europa

Doors-Keyboarder Ray Manzarek hat zwei Konzerte in Europa angekündigt: Ein Auftritt soll am Donnerstag, dem 22. November 2001 in der Stadthalle in Offenbach (bei Frankfurt) stattfinden, der andere am Samstag, dem 24. November 2001 im Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. Die Besetzung für die beiden Auftritte ist noch nicht bekannt. (www.pollstar.com)

Anmerkung: Aus mehreren zuverlässigen Quellen verlautet, daß diese beiden Konzerte definitiv nicht stattfinden werden. (HG, 10. September 2001)

30th Anniversary In Paris

Paris, July 3rd, the thirtieth anniversary of Morrison's death, Warner International and Elektra Records will host a celebration of Jim's life. Parisian officials are expecting a crowd of up to fifty thousand people to make the pilgrimage to Jim Morrison's burial site. Ray Manzarek and Danny Sugerman will be screening the legendary 1969 Films Feast of Friends and HWY, a 1968 Danish TV Special, a 1969 Public TV Special titled Critique as well as a one hour TV special titled A Tribute To Jim Morrison. Manzarek and Sugerman will also show the promo clips for The Ghost Song and Break on Through '97 (live from the Isle of Wight Festival). The screening will take place at: LES BOUFFES DU NORD, 37 Boulevard De La Chapelle, 75010 Paris. The show will begin at 6pm, July 3rd. The theater holds approximately 400 people so it is a first come first serve policy. There will be no charge to get in. Manzarek and Sugerman will host the event and be available for book and record signings. (www.thedoors.com)

New Doors DVD's Out Soon

The Doors have just closed a deal to release The Doors Soundstage Performances which will present the entire WNET Public Television Special, known as Critique, as well as a studio performance in Denmark. A Toronto performance of The End will be included in the package as well. In addition the DVD version will contain all the photos Günter Zint shot of the Doors tour of Denmark. Eaglerock will be the distributor and to give us time to assemble the photos for the packaging as well as digitizing and overall improving the sound, The Doors Sound Stage Performances will be avilable in Summer 2002. This fall will see the re-release of The Doors – A Tribute to Jim Morrison, also from Eaglerock, after the title has been out of print for five years.
   VH1's Special Edition of The Doors: Storytellers featuring Krieger, Densmore and Manzarek playing with singers Travis Meeks from Days of the New, Scott Stapp of Creed, Ian Astbury of the Cult, Pat Monohan from Train, will be out June 23rd on DVD and Home Video released by Image Entertainment. There will be two bonus tracks not shown on the original 90 minute broadcast – Billy and Ian from the Cult performing Wild Child and Creed performing Riders on the Storm. (www.thedoors.com)
